There are many different laser therapies and treatments out there for a variety of skin conditions, both cosmetic and medical. Finding the right laser treatment for visible facial veins can be difficult, but we’re here to help.
The most common cause of visible facial veins is rosacea. Rosacea is a skin condition characterized by ruddiness on the cheeks and other parts of the face. Rosacea is a chronic condition, and the cause is not well understood. What we do know is that it can manifest in a few different ways. Rosacea will start for most people as a tendency to flush more easily than others. Eventually, that flushing redness of the face may stop going away, instead causing skin to appear red at all times. Blood vessels often become more visible under the skin, creating spider vein-like patterns of redness on the cheeks. Rosacea may also manifest as acne-like lesions that appear on the face in these same areas. Other symptoms of rosacea include thickening, flaky skin, and swelling.
While rosacea is not dangerous to your long-term health, it can be detrimental to your self-confidence. Rosacea can happen to anyone, though doctors believe it’s probably hereditary, meaning you’re more likely to have it if a direct relative also has it. It also primarily affects women with fair skin, though men and people with darker complexions can also develop rosacea.
If you have rosacea or find that your skin is often red, you may be spending a lot of time trying to cover it up even without a diagnosis. People with rosacea often report feeling more shy and less confident in social situations. Your face is the focus of strangers and acquaintances alike, and many struggle with being preoccupied with thoughts about their appearance with rosacea. If you’re spending extra time each morning in front of the mirror fussing with concealer and makeup, maybe it’s time to think about laser therapy.
Pulsed dye laser therapy, or PDL is a popular method for treating the symptoms of rosacea and facial redness in general. Vbeam Perfecta is a particularly popular method for applying PDL therapy, and it has been known to produce excellent results reliably. Pulsed dye laser may sound complicated, and if you really research it, it is! But essentially, it uses pulses of intense laser light to target and destroy visible blood vessels. An organic dye is used within the laser device, which is why it’s called pulsed dye laser therapy. This dye is just to give the light the proper wavelength. It does not get applied to the skin.
PDL therapy, and the Vbeam Perfecta device specifically, is a quick and relatively comfortable treatment. Since your skin is being heated, there is some discomfort to be expected. With the Vbeam technology, this discomfort is reduced by cooling agents that are applied to the skin. PDL therapy results are not instant, but people should see results in as little as a week, with the full effect of therapy appearing within a few months. One session is not enough to produce the best results, so you may be going back a few more times before your dermatologist is fully satisfied with your treatment.
