Not Your Mother's Botox: There's a New Option for Wrinkle Reduction and Younger Looking Skin

As we age, our bodies undergo a number of changes, and our faces are one of the first places to show wear. You probably know wrinkles and deep facial lines can be treated, but did you know that there’s a new player in the wrinkle reduction game? It’s called Jeuveau, and it’s changing the score.

What Is Jeuveau?

Jeuveau is a new, noninvasive cosmetic solution that targets deep frown lines and eliminates them. Simply put, it’s the newest way to keep wrinkles at bay. Glabellar lines, or frown lines, are some of the most visible wrinkles on our faces. Don’t let the name fool you: Frown lines don’t only show up when you’re feeling down. Most facial expressions involve the area between your eyebrows, and those lines only deepen as we age.

How Does Jeuveau Work?

Jeuveau is a natural substance that includes the toxin prabotulinumtoxinA, which is another derivative of the botulinum toxin used in BOTOX. It has a similar chemical composition and the results are just as good as BOTOX. That’s why people are referring to it as ‘#newtox,’ an improvement on past formulas. Jeuveau is injected into the muscles between the eyebrows to temporarily paralyze or relax them, which over time causes visible lines to fade. It prevents the nerves in your face from over-working and making those deep, unsightly frown lines.

What to Expect from Jeuveau?

The main thing that separates Jeuveau from other methods to combat wrinkles and glabellar lines is its affordability. Jeuveau is a purely cosmetic treatment, meaning the company that produces it doesn’t need to worry about medical applications. As a result, they were able to get it off the ground (and FDA approved) quicker than competitors, and at less cost. While this little diversion into finances might be a bit boring, the bottom line is that you pay less for great results.

Since Jeuveau is an injected substance, some discomfort at the site is to be expected, but it’s otherwise noninvasive. Like with any other injectable wrinkle treatment, the side effects are minor and uncommon. Some people may experience swelling, bleeding at the site, bruising, tenderness, and infection after getting Jeuveau. If Jeuveau is administered by a professional dermatologist, you shouldn’t let that list worry you much. Even if bruising or other symptoms occur, side effects are usually brief.

If you have any allergies to BOTOX or other botulinum injections, you should not get Jeuveau. In very rare cases, the toxin in Jeuveau can spread and cause other muscles to become weakened. If you experience this or other symptoms such as: difficulty breathing, difficulty speaking, or blurred vision, seek medical attention immediately. While Jeuveau is an incredible treatment, it’s not for everyone. Even so, most people have no complications from Jeuveau, and the possibilities of side effects from surgery are much greater.

Most people will receive Jeuveau treatment three times a year to maintain and provide the best results. For most, visible results were achieved after the first treatment, and the effects only improved with the second session. Your dermatologist will determine how many sessions you need, and how often you’ll need to come back for maintenance injections.

Jeuveau is the newest kid on the block, but that just means they’re even more aware of your needs and expectations. If you want to have younger looking skin, ditch the frown lines and get in touch with NEDA Skin Solutions, your New England dermatologist. Contact us about Jeuveau today!
